If you want a Fable game, at the moment, this is your Fable game.
— Mike West, in light of Lionhead's closure and Fable Legends cancelation

Fable Fortune is a trading card game based on the Fable franchise, set for release on the Xbox One, PC and mobile for both Android and iOS devices some time in 2017. The game was initially in development at Lionhead Studios, where it was worked on for 18 months, until the studio's closure in early 2016. Key staff from Lionhead would then go on to form an independent team, Flaming Fowl Studios, which picked up where they had left off, going to Kickstarter on May 31st, 2016 to complete the game.

Based heavily on the groundwork laid by Hearthstone, Fable Fortune involves choosing between one of eight decks, each built around distinct playstyles, and draw cards based on a wide variety of Fable characters, creatures and lore. Traditional RPG mechanics from the Fable series, such as quests and morale decisions are transitioned into the game as well, to create the most Fable authentic experience possible.

Development[]

Fable Fortune was initially pitched in 2008 as a mini-game to tie into Fable 2, but was eventually put aside in favor of Fable: Pub Games instead. After the massive success of Blizzard Entertainment's Hearthstone, the development of a Fable TCG was revived in 2014, when Lionhead Studios began to collaborate with Mediatonic to create the game. Lionhead put 18 months of work into the game, creating a near complete experience before the studio was shuttered by Microsoft and all of their projects were canceled on March 7th, 2016.

Instead of simply cancel the near-completed game, Microsoft licensed out the completion of development to Flaming Fowl Studio, an independent team comprised of former Lionhead staff, to run a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to finish the project. The Kickstarter, announced in as part of a coverage deal on IGN, began on May 31st, 2016.
