BioShock is a first-person shooter video game series developed by Irrational Games and 2K Australia, and published by 2K Games. The series was created as a spiritual successor to System Shock, the official rights to which had long since disappeared into legal limbo, and was even headed up by System Shock's Ken Levine alongside a team of Shock veterans.

Both a critical and commercial success of a franchise, the Bioshock series has sold over 25 million units as of May 2015. However, despite this success, the high costs and long, troubled development of Bioshock Infinite lead to the studio's closure and Ken Levine's departure from 2K in 2014. While it was announced that 2K Marin would take over lead development on the franchise moving forward, no new titles have been announced since that time.
